Fatima is a nature writer with a visual art practice, based on unceded Wadawurrung Country.
Fatima was a Non-fiction judge for the 2019 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards, and convened the panel for the 2020 Awards. She was shortlisted in the 2023 KYD Prize for Creative Nonfiction for her essay, Path Integration.
Her essay No Shit, which debuted in Meanjin in 2014, was the provocation for new artistic work through Wunder Gym programs facilitated by Wyndham City in 2021 and 2023.
Her debut solo exhibition Sanctuary opened at The Annex, Werribee on 21 November 2023 for a limited run. She was a participating artist in Wunder Gym x Melbourne Fringe Festival group exhibitions on 2023 and 2025, as well as the group exhibition Nature is a Home at Louis Joel Gallery. Her work often focuses on the idea of layers — the overlap between past and present, destruction and construction, and the incompatible truths we hold about ourselves that are also inherent in our relationship with nature.
